Our Mission |
Holy Spirit Youth and Young Adult Ministry is a community where we first and foremost minister to each other offering the support and encouragement that all of us need. We provide a healthy and safe environment where everyone can feel welcome and a part of something great. Our goal is that every young person can come to understand their own goodness and the needed contribution that they can make to each other, our church, and to this world. |
The Holy Spirit Youth Ministry program was started is 1977 as “Teen Club”. Teen Club was a group where high school aged students (grades 8-12) could come together for fellowship, games, and fun. Over the years, Teen Club has evolved from a purely social club into a true ministry, where first and foremost, members minister to each other.
At the onset Youth Ministry, just as the Teen Club, our program consisted of confirmed High School students (grades 8-12). In 2007-2008 our ministry continued to grow with the creation of both a new Middle School and Young Adult program. Today, the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry sponsors three unique programs:
Spiritual Development: Developing a relationship with Jesus is an important dimension of our program. We sponsor a yearly weekend retreat, weekly discussion groups, RENEW 2000 for Youth, the Living Stations of the Cross for Good Friday, and a special 30 hour fast during Holy Week.
Social Activities: In being together as a group, we develop the bonds of friendship as the years progress. Having fun together is an important dimension of our Youth Ministry program. Our yearly trip to Great Adventure, our Halloween Costume party, our bowling nights and softball games foster an atmosphere of mutual respect and camaraderie.
Apostolic work: We soon learn that we do make a difference in the world -- young people do matter. We apostolic projects help us to work together as a group and show others that young people count! Our projects include fundraising events such as car washes, pasta nights, "Souper" Bowl Sunday (raising money for local soup kitchens), and the Christmas Giving Tree.
Making the Internet Work: Since many young people have access to the WEB, wouldn't it be great to have a Youth Bulletin Blog -- post your thoughts about topics that are important to you. Stay tuned for more info.
We are fixing up the Youth Ministry "Cellar " and game room and hope to host weeknight drop in nights where youth can come down during the week to play games and chat.
